Second-time mum Madusha is a NorthernStar milk donor, and she shared her story with us about the birth of her second daughter Viana, and what milk donation means to her:
"My name is Madusha. I am a mother of two daughters. I breastfed my first child until she was more than 1.5 years old. I did have a little oversupply that time as well, but unfortunately I was unable to donate that milk.
Viana is my second child. Viana was born in January 2023. She was full term baby. But when she was born she aspirated meconium. She was transferred to the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) immediately; as she dropped O2 (oxygen) very fast.
She was in the NICU for seven days. Now she is three months old. Since she was born I have exclusively breastfed her. I am not a over-producer, but I do have little bit of extra milk. So I thought it could help some other babies if I donate what extra I have. I hope this will help someone who needs it."
Thank you, Madusha, for all the hard work and dedication that goes into collecting milk for donation. And thank you, Viana, for sharing your precious milk with other babies in need!
